Do you spend more money if you only attend a university and dorm there for one semester and then transfer?

  1. Room and board for dorms and tuition are usually done per semester. So when you sign up for a dorm, only sign up for the first semester, or change it to only 1 semester (at my school you had until December to drop your second semester of the dorms).

you won't have to pay more because you are only attending 1 semester.

However, if your dorm contract says you will leave in the spring and you want to leave this winter, they may charge you an extra move-out fee (like $100 or so) or they may not let you have your security deposit back (usually they will credit your security deposit towards the extra fee, so you only have to pay the difference).

There aren't any fees for transfering out of the university. You didn't sign any contract that said you would attend through May, so if you leave after this semester you will be fine. They can't change you any extra money or anything.

Now, if you have scholarships thats where it gets tricky. If you have a year scholarship through the school that is done on the premise that you stay for 1 year, you could lose that scholarship for this semester.
