When you purchase something with a debit card and return it does the money go back on the card?

or do you get cash back? cuz I want the money to go back on my card but i dont know what 2 expect cuz i just got my debit card not too long ago and never had to return anything bought with it up until now

Yes the money will more than likely go back on your card. Some places will give you the option of getting cash back or putting it back on your card, but most places automatically put it back on your card. You have nothing to worry about!

It depends on the merchant. It is popular for returns to be credited back by the same method used to purchase it ie) cash, debit or credit.

some people will just give you cold cash back.

When you return an item that you have purchased with a debit card the credit is supposed to be applied to your account that the debit card draws from.  

Thus, you get the credit as more money available on your debit card.

Check your receipt.  

It depends on the store.  I recently returned an item which I purchased with my debit card.  I was told that if I had used it as a debit (with pin number) I would get cash back, but I used it as a credit (with signature because the pin pad wasn't working at the time) so they credited my account.  The receipt even stated that debit card returns would be refunded in cash.

Depending on store policy, they may give you store credit rather than refunding the amount to the card or giving you money back. In fact, it's becoming increasingly common for them to give store credit....they obviously don't want to give your money back.
