When you read what someone has written, do you 'feel' their tone?

  1. If the writer has made his/her tone clear, yes.  Otherwise, I'll add the mood I'm feeling at the moment to the message.


  2. tone is in the mood the author sets with his style. Is it stiff formal English, is it verbose...very wordy or laconic with few words, is it chatty and conversational or more like a lecture. Is it slangy or formal  language. The tone is the author's voice, the way his words strike you.

    Examples:

    Hemingway is a terse to the point writer with little slang or reference to topical things.

    Stephen King on the other hand is  intimately conversational with lots of references to the world around us.
