When you renew your passport do they send you the old one back?

bc i just renewed my passport and i gave them the old one. today i got my new passport in the mail... but i didnt get my old one back and i really want it for sentimental reasons...

do they usually send it back seporately or what

  1. When I have renewed my passport, they put great big holes in the old one and gave it back, but it's been some time since I've done it.
