  1. In the UK it is usually a months rent and the same again...the deposit is one months rent and the other one montyhs rent is to cover any damage you may do. Private landlords (small ads in papers) usually just ask for one months rent.

  2. .   Completely up to each individual landlord.  If the landlord knew she could trust you, there is no need for a deposit.  Why should she "hold" your money for 12 months.

  3. In Aberdeen, you pay the deposit (usually one month's rent) plus the first month's rent together.

Don't forget that in Aberdeen, students may be exempt from Council Tax and single people may receive a 25% reduction. There are other exemptions/discounts for which you may be eligible. For more information on Council Tax and to check whether you are eligible for an exemption or reduction you should visit the Aberdeen City Council website.

  4. its up to the landlord some just want the deposit. But others want month up front as well. As my landlord did. But he will have to put your deposit into a saftey account which the lanlord cannot touch under the new laws.
