  1. i would say yes. I tend to try and think more on the negative side sometimes that way i wont be as disappointed when everythings gets screwed up.

  2. That's a hard learned page from my book.

Now, I keep my hopes low, expect hard times and enjoy what easy and happy times come my way.

I hope that doesn't sound cynical, it's just reality for a working class poverty 20 something Canadian Man.

  3. No. It just hurts a bit more.

  4. I'd say yes because sometimes things don't come out the way we want them to.

  5. Yes you are increasing your chance of disappointment, but there is a line between being optimistic and having unrealistic expectations. Unrealistic expectations doesn't leave room for disappointment or alternatives and causes people to get ahead of themselves.

  6. Yes you do

    For example...

If you have never played football but hope you can score 10 goals in a row with a professional goalie...You probably wouldn't...but if you hope that you would score three goals in a row you have a better chance.

But then again if you get your hopes up high and you achieve whatever, then you would be happier

  7. yes, but it depends on the person....set ur hopes high, so u wont be stuck with a shift job ur whole life

  8. no ur chance of disappointment doesnt change whether ur hopes are high or low it just hurts u more in the end if ur hopes a re higher and u do get dissapointed

  9. This answer can be found in another question. What is humanities most common trait, Fear or Laziness?

  10. It often works that way, but I still have high hopes for my future.

  11. I love this question.

I always set my hopes high.  When I am defeated my world comes crashing down in disappointment.  However, I dust myself off and set new hopes that are sometimes higher.

Reach for the stars, the worst that can happen to you if you fail is that you come back down to Earth.

  12. When you truly believe in something you'll increase your chances for success.  Hope Big!

Check out these books:  "Biology of Belief" & "The Dancing Wu Li Masters" (funny name, interesting read)!

  13. it can happen that way, but if you don't aim a little too high, you won't see how far you can go.

  14. Yes, because our hopes depends on the probability of success we think that cetain situation has. SO when we set a very high hope, that's almost saying that the probability of success is close to 1, which is an absolute success. And this will of course in turn, being base on one or many reasons that make us believe so

When the outcome is a failure, not only we'll be disappointed, but we may start questioning all the things that lead us to have such a high hope

And also there's this thing, sort of like mentally prepare for a failure. The more we are prepare to accept a failure, of course the less disappointed we would be. If we have a very high hopes, I think for most people, that would meant they will not be prepare to accept failure, because they almost don't expect a failure at all.

  15. Think of it this way. assign your hope a number.

(Your hopes) - (actual outcome) = (your disappointment)

say if you set your hopes really high

    (220) - (100) = 120

    If you had normal hopes

    160  - 100 = 60

Idk if i answered your question to your satisfaction. I'm a mathematical person so this is the way i think of it.
