  1. How long you're in the DEP depends on when they have slots available for you to ship for basic training.

Where you go for basic training depends on your location and your MOS.

And no, you cannot drive yourself to basic training. You will report to MEPS the morning you leave for basic training and then you'll be bussed or flown to basic training.

  2. you can't leave the next day. they'll put you on the soonest ship day they can. first you need to go to a recruiters office. they will help you with that they'll get you to MEPS where you'll take a physical and the asvab, at MEPs you'll find out your ship date you can delay it up to a year or take the soonest one.

  3. Lets see here. It can be anywhere from a long time until basic up to a short time until basic. I people who shipped out 2 weeks after to 10 months after their signing, it all depends on your job. Basic training can be in numerous places, Fort Benning, Fort Jackson, and many more. I'm not to sure about driving but usually you ship out from a meps facility and they take you to your training fort

  4. They will have you do the aptitude test, interviews, medical and blood tests and if they go well they see when your selected jobs initial employment training is- some are more frequent then others, you have to pass the pre-fitness assessment within a month of the date going to basic training. It can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 years. My friend who went into the air force as a medic took her 2 years but in that time she got a medical degree of some kind so she was more then suitable for the role.

It just depends on if they are busy at the recruitment offices and can’t interview and test you for how ever long, the results of the blood test and your selected job- some jobs will have enough people in it training already so you’ll then have to wait for an opening, who knows how long that can take.

They will tell you to not quit your day job from the start in case it takes you a while to get in.

Hope that helped… I did it all pretty recently however I did it with the Australian army, although I doubt it, it COULD be different over where you are.

    Good luck!!

  5. Well, if you meet the requirements you can leave the next day. No, you can not drive yourself to basic. Location of basic training depends on what job you sign up for.
