  1. It is an old superstition that when a person sneezes that your soul tries to escape during that time.  But when people say "bless you" or "God Bless you" it's a way of keeping the soul in.

  2. people say God bless you because sneezing shows that you are sick or have allergies or something, and they feel bad, so they say God bless you because thats what they want God to do-to bless that person.

  3. During the early medieval times, sneezing was one of the symptoms of the plague, the Christians would say "bless you" as a quick blessing - prayer to wish them well.

  4. It actually dates back to the Black Plague in the 13th or 14th century.  They thought that the first symptom was a sneeze, so when one sneezed they were immediately blessed from people around them.

  5. I heard it was because for a second when you sneeze your heart stops, so they say God bless you so your heart will continue to beat again.
