When you stay in a hotel room, how much should you tip the maid?

Is it a certain amount per day? Does it depend on how messy you make the room / how clean the room it ends out? Is it based on your room cost? Do you even have to tip the maid at all?

  1. I think its based on the service the maid provides. If she/he is polite. When she/he has been in the room, has it been re stocked properly...toilet paper, clean towels, fresh sheets, your things untouched, that sort of thing. If you needed directions can she/he provide them? Are they friendly or stuck up?

Those are some of the things I look at when considering the tips.

  2. I've never tipped a maid in a hotel room - didn't even know that people did that!

  3. It depends how bad you trash the room.

  4. I only leave a tip if I'm there for a couple days.  For one night, no.

A few bucks is fine.  Probably 2 bucks per day, but not more than 10.

  5. they would love it if you tiped them per day .. and if you do tip them daily then they will forever loiter around your room so that you can continue giving them your hard earned cash.

You can tip them $1 per day (if in the US)

or a £! in the Uk

or just give them a £5 or $5 at the end of your stay

  6. I tip 2 or 3 dollars a day depending on condition of room. I used to tip on the last day only, but then found out that wouldn't be fair if different maids had cleaned on the other days.
