I plan to switch my 10 month old son to milk from formula a few weeks before his first birthday. Do they basically get the amount of milk that they were getting in formula? Or will it be more milk or less milk?

Currently my son is getting 20oz of formula a day.

  1. Yeah, that is the perfect amount.  Young children need 16-24 oz of milk a day, so you are right on the mark  :)

When you switch to whole milk, you may need to do a gradual transition (some kids take milk easily, others do not) - putting a little bit of milk in the formula, and gradually increasing the milk and decreasing the formula until it is all milk.

  2. Now that I am thinking about it that is probably about the amount I gave her every day, basically, i filled up an 8 oz sippy cup with every meal (breakfast dinner and super) Sometimes she drank it all, sometimes she didnt.  It probably equaled out to 20 oz in the end.

  3. I think the amount sounds right.  I didn't switch until my daughter was 1.  She was on whole milk until she was 2, then switched to 2 or 1% (went back and forth).
