When you take your road test in NYC, can you do it walk-in instead of scheduling an appointment?

I desperately need to take my road test before August 4th. However the next one isn't available until the 12th. Is there a way you can skip the appointment process and just walk-in?

  1. No, that's definitely not possible.

  2. No, they'll just tell you to get out. The DMV is a zoo in rural Kansas, in NYC it's unreal. Be happy you got an appointment that's not 3 months away.

  3. If the road examiner in NYC cannot schedule you before the Aug. 4th, have you considered a road examiner outside of town for your test.  Smaller communites have similar tests with a lot less chaos, but can get you in quicker in most cases.  Most states allow you to take your road test anywhere within the state.

The only walk ins they allow is to set up your appointment.  States have a limited amount of road examiners & they can have other jobs besides giving driving tests, like giving written tests, conducing vehicle inspections, etc.  Check out the NY DMV website or yellow pages for other examiner stations & get in touch with them.  Good luck!!
