  1. Really it depends on what kind of team you are trying out for.  If it is a school team that is more of a non-competitive team then underhand is fine if overhand doesn't work for you.  But if you are trying out for a competitive team then overhand is really best because it is more accurate and has lots of power behind it.  But whatever works best for you is what you should do and practice to improve.  If you do underhand right now, then practice and work to go into overhand.

  2. not really but most coaches want to see overhand because it shows more strength and expirance...underhand is okay tho if you cant do anything else

***hope i helped and good luck

  3. Like everyone said, it matters what level you are trying out for. But most importantly, perform a serve that you can get IN.

THAT is the most important. Don't do an overhand if you can't get it in.

  4. It depends on your age group and skill level. Most likely you will serve overhand if you are trying out for varsity. But whatever is most comfortable for you.

    Good Luck!!

  5. Not really but it is harder for them to return from a overhead serve. Less time to react.

  6. you should really serve overhand...this way serves are much harder and the overall serve is much more "impressive"

  7. How old are you?

  8. I have been playing volleyball for 8 years. so it depends what level your tryout out for. jr high? high school? college? haha. in jr high it doesnt really matter, the coaches should teach you how to serve over hand as the season goes on. In high school at the freshman level you should be familiar with the over hand serve, but once again the coach should help you! and any high than freshman year you should know how to serve over hand.

    Good Luck! :]

  9. With serves all a coach really wants is for the ball to get over the net. So it shouldn't really matter, as long as it makes it over. I say use what you feel more comfortable doing!

  10. I would say yes!!! Every coach I have talked to tells their players that they will have to learn overhand serve or they will not get a lot of playing time but then again it also depends on the coach and on the level of volleyball you are trying out for!!! I hope I helped out and good luck and have fun!!!

  11. Does it? Well it depends. At my school, the only way we can serve is overhand because you control overhand and that it is more powerful that little dinky underhand. An overhand goes usually in a straight line where a underhand goes down up high in the air and back down and they are easy to hit. It is all on how much strength you have and what the coach prefers.

  12. Yes, because overhead serving is much more controlled, although it is generally much hard to do than underhand, overhead serving allows the server to 'aim' their serve, i would practice trying overhead :D

  13. If you can get really good at underhand, then that's fine, but generally coaches will look for overhand servers because overhand serves are supposed to be faster, lower, and harder to get. If you can do overhand, use that serve while trying out. If not then practice hard! And if you really suck at it, then get better at underhand.

  14. I don't know how old you are, but if you are in Middle School, it doesn't really matter. At that age, they are more looking for your attitude, hussle, and eagerness to learn. But, if you can do overhand, do it! It is a hard technique to perfect. So, if you CAN do it, it will most likely impress the coach!

If you are in High School, definately overhand! Cause, you would be considered the weak link if you couldn't overhand, and everyone else on your and the opposing team could overhand!

    Hope this helps! Good luck!
