Question:

When you turn 50 is it normal for the Dr to request you have a ton of yearly bloodwork?

I had 8 vials taken in October 2007 and was tested for almost everything you can think of....everything came back normal. Why would the Dr suggest that I go through this again less than a year later? I'm in great health, I thought it was an odd request.

  1. Be glad you have a doctor who doe's this, prevention is worth its weight in gold, as they say.

  2. It isn't an odd request.  He may be checking for different things, or making sure that all is still normal.  People over 50 have a higher risk for most diseases, especially women, so bloodwork isn't uncommon.

  3. It does seem like a lot of tests -- normally you can get by with about 3-4 tubes to measure your basic blood chemistries, blood cell count, perhaps a PSA. But, the best course of action is to directly ask your doctor -- he or she may have specific reasons for the tests based on your personal and family history. No one here can answer your question accurately.

  4. Yep- that's not normal. Find another Doc.

  5. Yes, because no offence but your getting in your older ages when you start developing more diesase and your ammune system doesnt work as well. And hes just making sure your fine and healthy
