When you wash a down comforter does it lose some of it's warmth?

I just bought a down comforter and really like it but it's too warm. Will I like it better when if I wash it?

No, I wash mine about every three months. And it is still filled and fluffy and warm on those cold nights.

it may lose some , but only because you have bunched up all the feathers in a few pockets. you realy should have it dry cleaned.  you could make it thinner by taking out some festhers and then it wouldnt be so warm.

Washing it will not take out its warmth. It will ruin it though as it bunches he feathers and you can't fix that. Those things are dry clean only blankets. They are made up of the smallest feathers that give the skin of avians their water resilience add insulates them against the cold enough that they won't die so easily if unable to get far enough south for the winter. That is why it is so hot.

No it should not loose some warmth

Perhaps you could unpick the side seam gently and take some of the down out but do it where you can contain it - the bathtub is a good place as you can keep the feathers  a bit controlled in there. Dont forget to sew up the seam again, by hand is fine but do it twice up and back to make sure it is a nice strong seam - otherwise snow in your bedroom

~~No it won't make it any less warm. I wash mine and it's imperative you put clean tennis balls (2 to 3) in the dryer with the comforter. It keeps all the feathers fluffy and you won't get any bunches. It's just like brand new again, and it's just as warm as when you first buy them too.~~
