I am trying to get an idea of how poor in a monetary sense I am after working 36 years as a mechanic and raising my family in a 1000 sq ft house on a 7th of an acre with a right of way driveway and septic quit claim deeded on my neighbor's property.

  1. I dream about it, like everyone else.  The majority of the people can't afford all those fancy updates.

When I was raising my family..2 boys.. I had 400 s.f.  Amazing, but we survived.

The key words I see are "working 36 years"  I applaud you.

  2. A lot of times it is not so much the stuff that isn't affordable, its the tools needed, and the ability to be able to do the work yourself.  DIY stuff is sometimes overrated and made to look a little too easy.

  3. I don't dare to dream that I could afford their ideas, which is why I like Design on a Dime and some of the other shows that show designing on a budget.

  4. nnno wwway!
