Do companies who hire food servers and wait staff ever have training classes or tutorials on the duties of the job and how to perform the job skills properly , or how to meet the expectations ?

  1. It depends on the restaurant. I've worked a bunch of waitstaff jobs, and some were on-the-job training (i.e. follow around a senior server for a few shifts, or work as a host until you've learned the menu), while others have given me training classes replete with homework and tests. Generally, the more high-end a restaurant is, or the more corporate involvement there is (like it's a franchise), the more likely you'll have some classwork. Also, at nicer establishments, you'll more than likely have to start somewhere lower than a server, as a busser or server assistant, before they'll give you tables of your own.
