I'm a vegetarian but very skinny, and need to gain weight so I eat a lot of starches and stuff. I want my friend to be a vegetarian a lot (she loves animals) but she won't because she thinks being a vegetarian will make you gain weight. Will it make her loose weight, if so how much, and how fast? Also, have any advice for her?

  1. how would being a vegetarian make u gain weight thats rediculous.. (four year vegetarian)

  2. many people lose weight when they become a vegetarian, many stay the same weight, and few gain weight.

  3. When she is a vegetarian she has to eat healthy to maintain a slimming weight. Here is a food pyramid, as long as she follows this she will become very healthy (I follow this one):

She cannot just eat candy, cheese, and noodles all day. Being a vegetarian for her will not work. If she was dedicated enough and REALLY wanted to loose weight, she would try hard enough and follow the pyramid. She should also do a sport or exercises once a day. Btw, some of the people above gained weight because they ate wrong. Good luck to her.

  4. like others said.

    it depends on your diet.

    and your body.

i ate vegan burgers and fruits and bread and drank ONLY water and i lost 10 pounds in about a week and a half.

    no lie.

but i also ran almost everyday about half a mile to a mile.

    and im still losing weight.

    but i am very healthy.

so she should go for it!

  5. It really depends on your diet.

If you eat a lot of high fat cheese, ice cream and other fatty foods, you probably will get fat. If you stick with soy products (i.e. Boca, Morning Star), LOTS of fruits and veggies, a reasonable amount of grains, and low fat dairy products, you will go to a healthy weight.

Exercise is also important (for everyone, veg and non-veg).

I have lost most of my fat (no fat on my legs, a tiny bit on my flat tummy) and have gained a lot of muscle as a PESCETARIAN. That means I've gained weight (muscle > fat) but I look great. I was skinny before, but now my legs are "toned". I exercise daily.

  6. Being a vegetarian does not necessarily make you gain or lose weight. I have met 300 pound vegetarians and 105 pound vegetarians. A lot of it depends on genetics, and it also (obviously) depends on diet. I lost a lot of weight when I first became a vegetarian, but now my body is used to my diet and I pretty much maintain a healthy weight. However, don't pressure your friend to be a vegetarian if she doesn't want to. Lean meats have a lot of nutritional value, especially fish, and it may not be the best thing for her diet right now. Just because you love animals doesn't mean you have to be a vegetarian.

  7. Well i was a veg. and didnt lose any weight but became VERY unhealthy. Tell her not to worry about gaining weight as long as she is still watching the junk food. But please please please stay healthy...you dont want to end up at the doctor all the time or at the hospital.

  8. sometimes none.just b/c ur a vegitarian doesnt mean ur gonna get skinny. just being a vegitarian doesnt really affect ur weight usually. unless u eat THAT much red meat.. and any weight loss program that revolves around rapid weight loss is simply a quik fix and could actually hurt ur metabolism/body/health in the long run.

  9. My wife tried to be a vegetarian and actually gained a lot of weight.

Weight management is all about matching diet and calorie intake to individual health needs and activity level.

  10. If your a vegetarian you will lose an amount of weight that makes you turn skinny in a small amount of time.
