There's nothing left in your stomach that needs to be digested, so it makes that noise because it's digesting air.

your stomach expands when you eat and contracts after the food in it is digested, in so doing it causes the stomach fluids to drain into the intestines. The more it contracts the more fluid is displaced causing the tell-tale gurgling sound. Your stomach does not digest air it simply returns it back up to your airway in a burp. Other gasses are created in the digestion process that occaisionally burp up but more often are expelled in a bowel movement or as a f**t
