  1. always check your wires when something happens to your stereo, when you lose volume or hear cracking.

  2. it means your amplifier is in "protect" mode which means your amp got too hot and excessive heat usually is because of too little of an ohm load on an amp.  if you have a dvc sub try rewiring it if you have a svc sub u need to replace either the amp to one that can handle a lower ohm load or replace the sub to one with a higher ohm rating.

  3. It's Broken. LOL.  This has happened to me before where my subs stopped working, but then my bf just played with the wires and it was fine.  He says that its in "protect" mode and it could be that something is not right with your wires or possibly your ground wire is touching something it shouldnt be.  But the red light means that its protecting your amp from blowing up.  He says... just check all your wires and go from there.

  4. Most likely protection mode, the amp got too hot so it goes into protection mode to prevent catching fire and destroying itself.  Check the ground make sure that it is secure and properly wired.  Make sure all of your wiring is good and no loose connection or exposed wire touching each other.

If this happens on a regular basis then there's a good chance your amp is not powerful enough for the subs.  Does the amp feel hot when this happens?  You are asking it to work too hard so it is overheating.  Make sure the amp is well ventilated.

Without knowing what you are running its hard to tell why this is happening, post your amp and sub info for more detailed solutions.
