  1. When the people who were starting the "global cooling" scare-scam in the 70s discovered that it was actually getting warmer, so they had to change their scare-tactic to "global warming".

  2. 1998 when there was a huge temprature spike, it ended a year and a half later folowed by a 10 year cooling trend and a recent spike of cooling.

  3. If you look at research, the industrial revolution (particularly the second one) was when very noticeable changes that differed greatly from the normal trends began to occur. That's the late 1800s.

  4. Global warming and global cooling have been happening since the beginning of time.

  5. It depends on what proxy you believe, the LIA bottomed out somewhere between 150 - 400 years ago.

  6. I'd say, it started slowly, at the time of fossil fuel powered goods, and factories, and of course, the gas powered cars... I care about the environment, and protect it, and I would definatly say that the hybrids came in to the picture too late, and with too much expences attached along with it...

People are too hooked on their Mustangs and Porshes to jusat swich, im 13 so I still plan on getting a hybrid soon when I get older,

Global warming didn't start one day like "BAM" and than it was there, slowly as more and more people got into the "fossil trade" and more and more trees were cut down in the process, the atmosphere just got more and more inked with the greenhouse gas emissions, until eventually, poor Earth said, "Okay, somethin's goin' on up there..."

Earths average temperatures rised, and presently still, more and more of the polar "ice caps" were and are melting, I think that global warming was both 'natural' and 'manmade' because every 10 000 years earth goes through a phase called "Earths natural 'restoration' or 'climate change' system, put in me terms as, an Ice age.

You see what caused an ice age 10 million years ago was the comet, that killed of most of the extinct species, we call today, the Mammoth, or the 'dinosaur'. than the ice age finished them off.

to conclude my short explanation, it began around the age of fossil fuels, and will finish with mankind rolling along with it....

    Thanks,

    Courtney D.  :)

  7. About 15,000 to 20,000 years ago at the end of the last ice age. See graphs for better visual. It has been increasingly warmer since that time.

  8. Looks like Dr. Jello's got the smoking gun!  Or the smoking BS "scientist" lol!

  9. In the late '70's, early '80's after the "global cooling" scare just didn't go anywhere.

On July 9, 1971, the Post published a story headlined "U.S. Scientist Sees New Ice Age Coming." It told of a prediction by NASA and Columbia University scientist S.I. Rasool. The culprit: man's use of fossil fuels.

The Post reported that Rasool, writing in Science, argued that in "the next 50 years" fine dust that humans discharge into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuel will screen out so much of the sun's rays that the Earth's average temperature could fall by six degrees.

Sustained emissions over five to 10 years, Rasool claimed, "could be sufficient to trigger an ice age."

Aiding Rasool's research, the Post reported, was a "computer program developed by Dr. James Hansen," who was, according to his resume, a Columbia University research associate at the time.

  10. Approximately 10,000 years ago, when the last ice age started to end.

  11. i think it happened once before about 10,000yrs ago naturally

  12. It started 10,000 years ago when earth came out of the last glaciation period. We've had a few dips and spikes during this interglacial period so far the last two being the Medieval warm period and the mini ice age. One thing that always sticks in my craw is that the graphs everyone loves to show start right after we come out of the mini ice age at the end of the 1800's. If they show a longer one they use one that minimizes both the Medieval warm period and the little Ice age to make this small spike seem more dramatic than it really is.

The other thing that gets to me is that we really didn't get good global temperature readings until the early 1900's. And Satellites didn't come into play until 1979.

  13. First half of the 20th century by the look of this graph.

  14. When Al Gore realized how stupid the American people really are.

  15. it would make sense that it would have started, very slowly, at the time of the industrial revolution.

  16. I think it started when Margaret Thatcher was telling people that coal burning electrical plants were producing excess CO2, causing Global Warming, in order to sway public opinion towards Nuclear Power.

Between 1940 and 1975, global temperatures declined so much that the Scientist were afraid of a global ice age.

Now it is a global warming.

One would have to assume the temperature of the Earth is constant, even though this has never been the case in the past.

Maybe someone can say what the temperature of the Earth is supposed to be?
