  1. your door is either un leveled to the door way and has shifted from its algniment.

    1. check the gap between the door and the floor and mke sure it's level. Use a torpedo level for your vertical and horizontal alignments.

    2. check the hinges on the door, possible the hinges may be pulling away from the door itself. check for tightness, however don't over torque, which you may have to replace with a bigger or longer wood s***w to re-seat.

    3. check the k**b and latch that it is free to open and close. if needed take some sand paper and clean any debris that may be on the latch or holder.

    4. spray a dry grease or anti seize, do not use WD-40 because over time it will gum up.

  2. i know this my uncle is a contractor

fist look if when you close the door the thing thats makes almost a click sund goeses in and also is there a window in the bathroom and the wind blows it open

then look at the groud make sure the door is not too small for the frame or the door will open . so i think my self you need to buy a new dor so you dont think a ghost in your house hope this helps

  3. If the door closes all the way to the door stop, then look at where the door latch, is hitting the strike plate.

If the latch can't fall into the strike cavity, it won't stay closed.

If it will fall in, then it won't matter what other things may be wrong with your door.....it "will" stay closed.

  4. Do you have and do you know how to use a spirit level? Test to see if the hinge side of the door jamb is out of plumb. If it is, but only by a small degree, get a carpenter over there to look into adjusting the hang of the door so that it will not swing open.

If it's beyond that treatment, you might have to consider either major carpentry work to re-hang the door altogether. If it's a pre-hung (as most are today), then a new unit might be installed that will swing correctly. It it's a door jamb that was installed on-site and the door hung there, then it might be possible to re-set the door jamb and re-hang the door so that it swings correctly. Still a fairly costly job.

You could look into a set of hinges with springs so that the door would be self-closing? That would be the band-aid approach.

But it sounds like your house has settled and things are out of plumb and out of level, which is the most common cause of this.

  5. It sounds like the door isn't level to the jam, you would have to loosen up on the jams and reset the jams by squaring and plumbing it...this article explains how to hung a door
