  1. It sounds to me like your computer's running out of memory towards the end of the burning process. If you don't have a lot of hard disk space left on your PC, delete some stuff. Also check that there aren't too many programs running when you're about to burn a CD. Some programs hog your computer's memory even when they're running in the background. You might not even have opened them at all but they're set up to be ready to go if you want them. All well and good but they're memory hoggers. Culprits include itunes and Apple updater and RealPlayer. If you hit alt+ctrl+delete to bring up the windows task manager, then click on the processes tab, you can see what's running. Click also on the performance tab to see how CPU is being used.

Maybe try a diffferent program to burn CDs. I like this one - http://cdburnerxp.se/download.php - a lot. It's totally free and doesn't have nasty ads or viruses or spyware in it. It might be worth a try to see if you have any better luck with your CDs.

Other culprits could be the brand of CD you're using. It's amazing how some brands of drives and certain CDs don't work well together. Perhaps too your CD drive itself might have a problem. Try cleaning the lens anyway, just in case.
