I find hours and hours devoted to greeting card making. And it seems to me that you could spend a lot of money on this hobby. I have never met anyone that actually does this and I wondered if any of you do and does it cost you a fortune?

  1. I have literally met 100's of people at different craft groups & craft fairs who do this & yes it does cost a fortune & is highly addictive!

But you can also recycle a lot of things - packaging from gifts, old cards etc.

  2. My mother used to sell "Stampin' Up" products (for greeting cards and scrapbooking) and yes...it is insanely expensive.

One could argue you get supplies at the dollar store, and you can, but the quality is such a huge difference if you ever get the good stuff the rest just seems like garbage.

Not to mention the imagination it requires.

One hobby I never took up, was making greeting cards.  I made a few with my mother as samples to show people in her business but I couldn't past the cost factor and never liked it much.

  3. Like most of the creative arts  they are not overly expensive.

  4. I make my own cards, I started because my Husbands family like in New Zealand and they celebrate Mothers' Day and Father's day on a different date to us in the UK. Card making can be expensive if you buy loads of stuff from TV channels but not if you only watch and then find what you need on ebay. The TV channels put together large kits of items, most of which you might never use. You have to be selective.

Making cards is a really good way of keeping kids entertained for a few hours when it's raining.... and Grandparents are suckers for a hand made card !
