When I try to brush my back teeth or floss back there I gag and almost throw up. It's happened all my life, but lately it's gotten worse, and sometimes even when I try to brush the back of my front teeth it happens. I'm a little worried cuz my back teeth need their proper care. Anyway is this normal or is there something wrong? Also sometimes even if I just cough really hard It will happen.

  1. i experience mild gagging when i brush my back teeth. i just breathe really deeply, and brush more carefully and slowly, with precise motions instead of really quick ones. it usually works.

  2. Have you got oversensitive reflexes? Or maybe a fear of choking? Try and think of something calming and relaxing when you are trying to brush your teeth. Picture something you love or makes you feel safe. Also do not force try and do everything in small steps and gently. Hope I helped. Alternatively if nothing works then see a doctor or psycologist.

  3. Some people just have really strong gag reflexes. You can try throat numbing spray when you brush, that should help.

I dont know what its called, but its meant for soar throats.

You can slowly fight your gag reflex by going a little further back every day, until your brain understands that its okay and you wont really choke.
