So why is it then, that Americans don't tip bar or waiting staff in the UK? Are you advised not to? It is expected over here too.

  1. well ive never been to the UK but i have been to other countries and I always tip. When I was in Venezuela I even tipped  the sales people who were nice enough to scramble round trying to figure out my broken spanish an d find me correct sizes in what I wanted. and that is certainly not a custom here in the US.  Though from what I have heard the UK is outrageously expensive as it is and despite common belief  most americans are far from rich. plus, the main reason for tippin here is because our retarded government doesnt raise wages. everyone makes c**p. waiters are started at $3.00 an hour or less in most states. Here in Utah its $2.15 and the minimum wage is a rediculous $5.50. though some states are higher. Washington state is $8.00 and thats the highest I know of. maybe you understand it better now, maybe not.

  2. I think Americans get mad that Europeans don't tip just because the strength of the dollar is so weak right now that a $2 tip for a drink is like a buying a small piece of candy for a European. Americans are usually really good tippers, so chances are your service or facility are bad if Americans are not tipping you.

  3. I have read several times that many European countries feel offended by tips...rumors I guess?

  4. yeah, there's deffinetely confusion over what countries to top in and which countries include it in the bill so you don't have to tip.  i haven't heard about England, but when i went to France people told me that i didn't have to tip b/c the tip is already added onto the bill.  i bet a lot of people think that it's the same way in the UK.
