  1. What kind of shoes are you wearing? If you are wearing cross trainers, or any other shoe besides a good running shoe, then that could definately cause you problems. I had all sorts of knee, calf, and ankle pain until I switched from Nike crosstrainers to Adidas Uraha running shoes- $50 from Shoe Carnival. Good luck!

  2. Make sure you have proper runners - go to a running store and get fitted for your foot type, gait, pronation, etc.  When running, make sure your strides are small, overstriding can cause sore knees and shins.  Your muscles were hard at work so do expect some soreness.  Ice your sore muscles 10-15 minutes 3X/day and take advil if needed.  Take some rest day to allow your muscles to repair and restore.  Cross train, like swimming, cycling, or yoga, etc.  This help reduce injury.  Stretch gently after a run, and it helps (especially after a long run 1 1/2 + hours) to have an ice bath for your legs.  Run cold water in the tub (wear a sweater and read a magazine to keep your mind off the cold) sit in tub and add a bucket of ice and sit in for at least 10 minutes (or as long as you can stand it.)  This really helps inflamation and soreness of your legs.

Don't get discouraged, this will ease over time, vary your mileage/hill repeats and speed drills.  Run happy!

  3. I say get used to it. Everyone I talk to in college who runs 2+ miles per day says their legs always hurt and I used to run and after a month my legs would kill for a month even after I stopped running. It's good for you but beats the h**l out of the legs. Either run on grass (absorbs the shock on the joints and legs much more than treadmill or road) or swim. Or just suck it up and continue haha.

  4. At your age that is not common, but if you were older, it could indicate that you have clogged arteries in your legs.  The worry then is how are your heart arteries,  I had to assume you are young.
