  1. ball back in your stance, weight on front foot, putting motion with the club.  Your swing shouldn't change with change in distance.  By that I mean if you're chipping 5-10 yards use your sand or pitching wedge.  10-15 yards try your 9 iron, further away, go to longer clubs rather than trying to hit your wedges harder.  The higher lofted clubs tend not to release as well as say a 7 iron so if your chip is a little further you don't necessarily have to land the ball further away than had you used a wedge because the chip with the 7 iron will release.

  2. When you chip, you do not want any wrist action.  From 5-10 yards away, chipping the ball is basically using a putting stroke.

I normally place the ball an inch or so behind the center of my stance.  Place the majority of your weight on your front foot.  (This will help you hit down on the ball a bit.)  Then use a putting stroke.....no wrist action at all.

    Just takes some practice.

  3. to get consistant try the clock method. that is using the hand position of a clock you with practice can tell how far to take your back swing. eg hands up to three oclock one distance, hands at 2oclock for a further distance. After awhile it will feel natural and you get more consistant.

  4. Have you tried Open stance, half swing, with wrist action? It works very well for me.

And also make sure you are not looking up at the ball flight, before you actually hit the ball.

  5. Most amatures fail to turn through a short pitch shot very well, they tend to be all hands and arms and have no rotation with the legs and hips.  This is even necessary with a shot as short as 5 yards. By taking the hands out of the shot you will hit much better more consistant shots.  To read a complete ariticle on this go to the link below.

  6. Hinging your wrists will hurt your swing, try taking a shorter backswing and accelerate through the ball, act like you are putting with the club.

  7. place the ball in the back of your stance, just off your right foot, and put you weight fwd, on your left foot, hand infront of the ball, this de lofts the club and starts the ball rolling quicker, play a sort of putting stroke, Try and stop all wrist movement this is where the problem occur,

  8. Forget all that, Move your hands forward, lessoning the loft and ensuring more consistent ball striking and then start picking out spots on the green to land the ball, using your known ball behavior.
