  1. They get paid fairly well, considering it is a second job for most of them.

I was told about three years ago that boundary umpires at the swans games got paid $1600 for the game - some of them came from the ACT competition so they were very keen to do that job.

I don't know what umpires get paid but it must be considerably more than that.

  2. They get a pay rise every year.

They are overpaid for what they do - most of them are frustrated footballers who have not been able to make it past under 10's.

And as to getting a rise when touched up by their respective wives - I suspect otherwise!!

  3. When their wives reluctantly touched them up.

  4. who cares, they should be seen and not heard as my nan used to say to me about us kids. lol.

  5. From what I've seen they get a raise every time they blow the whistle.  There's no other explanation for why they can't stop interfering with the game.

  6. I don't know.

Are you suggesting they deserve one? If so you must be one or related to one - no-one else thinks they deserve more money for what they do.

  7. 2006.

The AFL has agreed to officials' demands to match the rate of player salary increases over five years.

Umpires will receive a 23 per cent jump over the next five years until 2011.

While an average umpire's salary is $55,000-$65,000, it will boost a top umpire's earning capacity to almost $110,000 this season and $125,000 in the final year of the agreement.

  8. LMAO...Arsenal has my kind of humour!!! hehehe
