  1. Depends on the model.  It's usually a metal plate attached on the tail area, with S/N information.  If you know the 'N' number, you can generally look it up, either on Landings.com or the FAA registry area.

  2. Depending on age and mods the data plate containing serial and variant number is located for a 172 on the forward face of the firewall or on the port side door piller at floor level.

On 152 its located either on the firewall or on the seat pan.

  3. Nearly all Cessna aircraft have the serial number plate on the left door pillar. At some point awhile back some FAA dude allowed as how the number should be visible when ramp checking, so a small plate with the model and serial can be found under the left horizontal stabilizer on the fuselage.

  4. It should be in the air frame log book, and also on the maker's plate (sometimes on the firewall or in the cockpit).

  5. It is on the inside near the left door front frame.

  6. Take down the registration ie G-SERN or N153TF and check it out on the CAA or FAA datebases. A good planespotter website will give you the serial when the registration is typed in.

  7. If it's a british registered aircraft i.e. G-****, goto the website of the CAA. Just type in GINFO into your serch engine and you'll find it. Type in the registration and it will give you all the details of the aircraft. The FAA have a similar site if it's an American aircraft.

    Good luck
