  1. I got my hamster at Petcetera , I'venever heard of petsmart before.

But you should go to both stroes, and see which hamsters look the healthiest. Try to pick the hamster with no scars, scabs.

  2. A healthy hamster should have a clean, soft and shiny coat. It's eyes should be alert, and its reactions too. The nose shouldn't be runny, and  it should be happy and bright. Look at the other hamsters. Choose the most healthiest looking one. Is it alert, bright, and curious? Ask about the litter's background too. Its parents should have been healthy too. The hamster shouldn't be hiding in a corner or curled up by itself in a ball while others are playing. Check out some website in how to choose a healthy hamie. Then, compare both pet stores!

  3. This always depends on the individual place near you.

You can't judge an entire chain of pet stores. Some places will care for their animals better than others. Go to each store and look at the hamsters, ask the employees how they care for them, look at their eyes and ears and noses, as well as activity level. Whichever one treats the animals better is the one you should choose.

You should also look into your local rescues and see if they have any hamsters to adopt. Petfinder.com is a great resource, and better than getting from a store.
