  1. There is Knappogue Castle, ca 25 km from Limerick, if you take the Ennis road until Quinn, where it is signposted.

You can go to Bunratty Castle and folkpark (they have no rooms), just across the road from Shannon airport, the Cliffs of Moher are not too far, neither is the Burren, but that's mainly if you are interested in botanics. Then I would recommend to go South and see Kerry and especially Killarney, you could then go to the South coast, there are lovely places like Baltimore and Skibbereen or Schull.

If you can plan it in, go to Blarney Castle, not because of the Stone, but because of the Druidic monuments from the bronze age on the same site.

Be warned though, staying in a castle will probably cost an arm and a leg.

  2. If you have a car, nowhere in Ireland will be too far away and the more you travel, the more you will see.  The first site below has a list of twelve castles which offer hotel accommodation.  They vary in price depending on type of room and time of the year.  If they prove too expensive you can stay at a  Foulksrath Castle, 8 miles outside of Kilkenny city, a striking 16th Century Norman House Tower which has been turned into a hostel, for between €13.50 and €15.00 each per night.

The Limerick site below gives distance in miles from Limerick to many places around Ireland, (at bottom of page) so you can judge if they might be too far.  The last site is a map of Ireland where you can type in the place-names to see where in Ireland they are.  Enjoy your holiday!

  3. im not sure of the specifics (if you go to www.discoverireland.com they'll tell you everything that you need to know) but i think that there is a hotel/castle within about 30 / 40km of limerick city . A stay in a castle will propably cost you (depending on weekend/days and time of year etc) but if you can afford it its well worth it. B&Bs are all over the place so you dont have to worry about them. As for stuff to see and do - check out Galway City and if you want to travel you should check out Kilkenny City aswell (about 120km from limerick city - an hour and a half). Plenty of tourist info at the ferry terminal (I presume you are taking a ferry if your taking your car) and that will give info about specific things to go and visit.

Ireland is a cool place so youn should really enjoy yourself (not the weather, but you'll enjoy everything else).
