Hi -- I have only visited some parts in the Tehri-Garhwal region of Uttaranchal and it is absolutely stunning and enchanting.  This is one place that reinforces the fact that money isn't everything.

The land of four dhams -Gangotri-Yamunotri-Badrinath-Kedarnath. Pilgrimage is a must when you visit this area -- connects you with the Divine and adds to the meaning of life. There are other destinations as well, to visit --charming little places nestling in valleys or hillsides where folks are earthy, simple and unspoilt.

OLD TEHRI

It is 16 kms from New Tehri and 84 kms from Rishikesh on the confluence of Bhagirathi and Bhilangana rivers. This transit point to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath was chosen as the capital of Tehri Garhwal by Raja Sudarshan Shah after the expulsion of the Gurkhas with the help of the East India Company in 1815. The town is studded with historical buildings and temples

With the construction of the Tehri dam, New Tehri, a modern well planned township, at a height oh 1500 m,  has taken over as district headquarters.
