I second the person above that said to forget the basic ice cream and go to Cafe Intermezzo. There's two locations: one on Peachtree, and one near Perimeter Mall. I like the Perimeter one better, personally. It's intimate, and they have AMAZING drinks and desserts. Plus, they're open really late, so you won't have to leave if you're having a great time.

Actually, it's just a great date place in general.

The grocery store.  Get Blue Bell icecream, it tastes like home made.

skip the ice cream and do phenomenal desserts and coffee at Cafe Intermezzo- you won't be disappointed.  intimate low-light, decadent pastry, every coffee drink you can imagine, and a full bar.  everything you could need!

An "upscale" ice cream place? Not sure what you mean by that....but try Ben & Jerry's or Cold Stone. Both are excellent.
