Where's a good place for a weekend getaway in NC?

Question

I live in SC and want to go on a weekend getaway in November with my husband but don't want to drive too far. Any suggestions of good towns in N.C. and what to do there? I know the popular ones like Charlotte and Asheville, but I'd like to try somewhere new!

I like Cashiers and that area  beautiful scenery, lots of B&B's there may even be a festival or 2. you would have a prettier trip if you could go in early to mid October because the leaves are beautiful then

Blowing Rock, NC is a quaint town with adorable shops and restaurants.  It's a perfect place for a weekend get-a-way.  My husband and I try to get there once a year.  There is shopping, great food, a cute ice cream shop, art galleries and lots of outdoor activities.  We always stay here and LOVE IT:

Camp on ocrakoke island.  You'll never be more than a hundred yards from the beach and there are all kinds of neat towns on the neighboring island.
