I have 3 different tanks right now and I'm using one ( duh!! lol ) Well anyways, we have a 5 1/2 gallon, a 10 gallon and a 50 gallon. Right now I'm using the ten gallon tank and it's on a shelf and it's really scaring the c**p out of me because we only have one aquarium stand and we currently use it a lot! So the shelf is making me so nervous b/c i always think it's going to fall!!! My step-dad told me that that's the only place i can have it right now and i spent around $30 dollars when i got the tank, new fish, and food. ( bloodworms) I'm pretty short on money right now, about 18 dollars? I'm going to watch my neighbor's cat in a few weeks and i get paid 10 dollars for it but i still can't WAIT that long! So is there are good places that you would say have a good aquarium stand? It just as to be big enough to at least hold a 50 gallon. Since i have a 10 gallon, would it be ok to have some extra space? I read an aquarium guide that you should have a stand big enough to support all corners so it won't stress out the tank level and that way it won't crack. I'm just so nervous ever moment that it will collapse!

All answers are welcome! ( but be serious!)

Thank you guys!!!

  1. save some money for awhile and buy a stand for your 50 gal tank. if you buy a cast iron stand that they sell in most pet shops they will have a shelf on the bottom cut a piece of plywood to fit that bottom shelf and put your smaller tanks down on the bottom. this will help you with more room for your fish and save you space in your house. have patience none of have alot of money. i myself buy most everything at rummage sales and off of craigslist. check out craigslist. good luck and have fun setting up your tanks.

  2. well i think that you should put your 50 gallon tank (wow that's alot i use 1.5 or 2.0 tank lol) on like a stirdy desk. then it won't fall or maybe you should put it (wow this is a hard thinking question lol) on something that won't make it collapse. sorry if i didn't help!

  3. A stand to hold a 50 gal can be around 150 bucks. sorry.

  4. If you are on a tight budget, I would suggest checking out the local thrift stores for used fish tank stands or well made furniture alternatives.  Measure the bottom dimensions of the 50 gallon tank and find something large enough to support it.  Water weighs about 7.5 lbs. per gallon but an aquarium with gravel and a hood will weigh about 10 lbs. per gallon full.  Your 50 gallon tank will need something strong enough to support 500 lbs. of constant weight.  If you find the right size piece of furniture, ask yourself if your mom and dad could both stand on it at the same time without it breaking or bending?  Solid wood or metal is better than pressed board furniture.  You can also put your tank on the floor and use it there until you find the right piece of furniture.  That's better than putting it on a shelf that can't support 100 lbs. of aquarium.  Check local garage sales, estate sales or swap meets for bargains.  When people move, they often can't take old furniture or aquariums with them so they almost give them away.  Also check www.craigslist.com and search for aquarium stands.  You just might get lucky and find one in your area at a price you can afford.
