I happen to be the person who handles seafood poisonings for the health department. If you eat oysters in summer, you can get very sick. Then you will get a real, live phone call from me and I'll have a lot of questions for you about your illness and where you ate the oysters.

So it's my professional opinion that you do not eat oysters in the summer time. The warm water makes them more prone to bacterial contamination, mostly with Vibrio (the same genus as the bacteria that cause cholera). If you ingest Vibrio, you will suffer with some seriously wicked diarrhea and stomach cramps. Some folks have told me they felt like they were going to die.

But hey, if you really want to eat some good oysters and sushi, I'd recommend Sushi Go 55 in Little Tokyo. The sushi is great, and they have oyster shooters. If you get sick, well, it's more work for me, but it keeps my job interesting.
