  1. Ya, Richard C is correct.  If your still looking for it:  it is usually aluminum in color, about a 6 inch circle (an inch or so thick) and yes it should be attatched to the carb.  If it's there, you'll see it.  Check the owners manual if you have one, there should be a picture of it there as well.  Hope that helped a little.

  2. It already has 1under the plastic cover it has to be cleaned quite often as belt dust plugs it> 11/2" thick you can replace it with a 2 "which will make it run better> If there is clearance in the cover to the deck cover>

  3. It is the gold/bronzey colored thing sitting on top of the carb.

Check with your marine dealer, they will get you the right one and place it right on top just like and air cleaner on a car.

  4. Yes, the flame arrestor sits on top of the carburetor.  There is a stud that is long enough to pass through the flame arrestor and a nut is placed in the protruding threads to secure it in place.  The flame arrestor is made of stamped sheet metal and is about the size of a frisbee.

Having explained all that, are you sure this is not an EFI or MPFI engine.  Mercruiser had several different configurations during the 90's and if your engine is OEM it would have a flame arrestor on the carb.  I don't know why anyone would remove it.     It sounds like you need to talk to a certified Marine Mechanic who would know what you have, and what you need.
