  1. Because they are true Americans, unafraid of setting out to restore their lives and willing to do what it takes to make it happen.

Katrina people on the other hand were victims of voting in their Democratic leaders.

  2. Could be that Iowans are far more self reliant and unlike the southerners in New Orleans, they are not always looking for free handouts. I hate to play the race card, but it needs to be said. Two different societies and two different races and two different results says it all.

  3. Perfectly said.

  5. Excellent observation. A star for you.

  6. Its because there aren't that many of them.

And they aren't being neglected as they beg for food drops.

FEMA has learned something, and this isn't as bad as New Orleans was, 38,000 as opposed to a million and a quarter.

All in one city as opposed to over several states.  Many of those flooded out are staying with relatives and neighbors who aren't flooded.

Katrina covered three states, and it wasn't just a broken levee, it was also wind, rain and storm surge.  The death toll was over two thousand, thankfully that's not at all the case in the Midwest.

We do need to examine the levees that failed once again, as they did in '93, and the time for relief concerts will happen, as many of the people don't carry flood insurance and they were assured by the government that they didn't need it.

Maybe its time white, rural people stopped being so accepting, the government built those failed levees, the government told them they didn't need flood insurance, many of them will never be able to get back even a fraction of what they once had.

A little well placed anger and a little less sheepleness would do them better than placid acceptance.
