Keep an eye on The Trading Post for 2nd hand guitars. Hubby recently got an electric bass with speaker and a stack of accessories through the Trading Post for $500 that was in excellent condition and woth well over $1000.

We also saw many on Ebay that were inexpensive.

If you are after brand new guitars - there is a shop opposite Garden City, Mt Gravatt that we went into when we were browsing around that had some reasonably priced guitars. I think it's called Music Express (can't be sure though sorry).
