I'm going to Chicago for the first time and want some good food. Where can I get a good Italian Beef? And do you have any more recommendations for places to go and eat great Chicago cuisine?

  1. Al's

  2. Very few restaurants have foods with flavors so distinctive and unique that they are featured as one of Esquire magazine’s current picks for best sandwiches in America. Only one, Al’s Beef, offers its customers Chicago’s and America’s #1 Italian beef sandwich, the one and only, the authentic sandwich invented 70 years ago at the now legendary Taylor Street beef stand in Chicago. I went there in the late 90's and brother, what I'm tellin' you it was great. went again last summer on my visit to Cicero, it seemed to be even better that the first time, and I will be there in 2 weeks, on my yearly visit. I was introduced to this place by 2 former military buddies who talked about this delicacy when I was a Left Coast guy, had no idea what this was. Oh, always look for the 'Vienna Beef" logo, that is what makes Diner A better than Diner B. Trust me on this, you'll have withdrawls and you'll have to get rehabilation, it get's ya real hard and won't let go. thats  the drawback...

  3. Chicago is known for its hot dogs not its beefs and you can pretty much get good hot dogs anywhere in the inner city.  The best place I know of to go to for beefs is weedees in South Elgin, the suburbs of Chi.

  4. Portillios by far! or Johnnies in Elmwood Park

There use to be a place called Gino's it was near 16th & maybe Oak Park Ave? It's been years and I think owner/name change...

    Lucky Dog was pretty good

But Buena Beef is for sure a great choice and they've even gorwn to the suburbs of Naperville and such.

  8. Best Beefs: Portillos

Best Hot Dogs: Wiener Circle on Clark

  9. Portillios, or Beefys!

  10. If you're going to the downtown area, Al's is the place to go for beef. Gino's East for deep dish pizza.
