Where's the best place to study abroad in Australia?

Hey,

I'm looking to study abroad in Australia next year and I am having issues trying to find the best place to go (they all look good).

Does anybody know a good area that's close to a wide variety of activities or is also in close proximity to other really nice areas to visit? I'm kind of outdoors-ish so I was looking at Queensland... I don't mind a big city like Brisbane (I've lived in a big US city for all my life) but does anybody know anything about smaller areas like Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, etc (or anywhere else cool outside of QLD, even New Zealand is a possibility.)?

The ideal destination for me has lots to do outdoors and lots to do in the city for nightlife, warm climate, cold beer, beautiful scenery, and of course some beautiful girls ;)

Thanks a bunch.

  1. I live in queensland, on the gold coast. At my university we have heaps of American study abroad students and they absolutley love it here.

They find that the night life here is like no other, brisbane is within an hours drive north, and your only an hour and a halfs flight to sydney if you wish to go there.

Here on the coast, we dont really have a winter - its normally warm all year round, we have lovely beaches and plenty of places to go and chill out to have a drink.

I definatley recommend you check out gold coast.

We have Griffith University, Bond University and Southern Cross Universities on the gold coast.

    :)

  2. Well, if youre looking for somewhere that has a mix of everything then Brisbane is a good choice. You've got the city life.... bars, clubs, entertainment, restaraunts... social life.

Plus, youve got that outdoorsy feel. Theres the beach, you can travel up the coast to the barrier reef or down to coast to the gold coast and the theme parks. In the areas theres heaps to do such as diving, snorkilling, swimming with sharks, surfing, kayaking, absailing, caving etc...

Unis in Australia also encourage alot of sports especially if you live on campus. If your living on campus you can also get involved with college social life, and go to arts/drama events etc.

  3. Well New Zealand is not part of Australia. So either you go to New Zealand and study there ,or study in Australia.I would recommend Cairns if you are after a smaller area.It is good because you can get good access to the Great Barrier Reef,National Parks such as Daintree,Kuranda. Also, from Cairns you can go up to Port Douglas or visit the Cook Town area ,if you want to get to an area that is isolated.Cairns is well developed and would have all the shops and entertainment Brisbane has.I am not sure about nightlife in Cairns,I know Brisbane has plenty.Cold beer is everyone even in the smallest towns.

  4. I studied in UQ in Brisbane and I had the time of my life!! It's a small city compared to Sydney but perfect place for a student life....And u have the gold coast/ Sunshine Coast and Byron Bay nearby which are perfect weekend road trips!!!
