The Kitchin or La Favourita on Leith Walk.

The Smoke Stack Down Broughton Street.  The food is to die for.  Ambiance just right.  Great service.

Depends what sort of food you like and how much you want to pay...some nice fish restaurants in Leith.  I think its shore street...otherwise check this link

There is only one restaurant in Edinburgh Illinois. It is not hard to find, it is right on the square.

Roti has been mention (Indian restaurant) but it has now moved from Rose Street to Morrison Street.  Not sure what the new place is like now that its been taken over - was only in it before when it was the Italian place.  

Martin Wishart, The Kitchin and Number One at the Balmoral Hotel all have a Michelin Star, so are the best in those terms.  

My favourite though is Rhubarb at the Prestonfield House Hotel.  

Or, if you like the bustle of a busy Italian try the Patio in Hanover Street or Centotre in George Street.

the Kitchin and Martin Wisharts are both michelin stared and expense there both near the shore in leith. roti is a very highly regarded Indian near rose street, but again expensive.
