Question:

Where's the icon in my computer?

I had a dvd-rom drive as drive d and a cd-r as drive e: and i replace the dvd-rom witha a dvd-rw by hooking up all the wires in back. when I turn on the computer drive e is now know as d and there is no icon for dvd burner! Any help?

Odds are that both the CD drive and the DVD drive on are different connectors on the same IDE cable.  Any time two devices are on the same IDE cable, one of them as to have a small jumper on it set to "master" and the other to "slave".  If only one is showing up, it means that both drives are set to "master" (or both to "slave").

    The jumpers are usually located on the end of the drive where the two cables plug in.  Either the pins will be labeled as Master, Slaves and Cable Select, or there will be a little chart on the top that display the pins layouts.

    Look at the new drive, see what it is set to (master or slave) and then change it to the other. (You may need a pair of tweezers to move the little jumpers.)  That should allow your computer to see both drives again.
