  1. okay, here are some statistics for you:

The Sperry Glaciers in Montana were over eight-hundred acres in 1901 and are now merely three-hundred.  Since 1912, the snows of Kilimanjaro have melted over eighty percent.  The ice caps atop the Himalayans are expected to disappear in less than thirty years.  Ice covering the Arctic Sea has thinned ten percent since 1980 (Glick, 2008).

First, fresh water will slowly diminish.  Two percent of all water in the world is fresh and able for humans to consume and use.  Of that two percent, seventy percent comes from arctic ice glaciers.  With the current increase of global population and increase of global temperature, severe fresh water shortages will occur, as some already are in Himalayan villages (The Effect of Melting Ice Glaciers, 2008).  Not only will fresh water be contaminated, but excessive flooding will ensue in arctic areas, especially America’s Alaska.  Native Alaskans depend largely on the production and selling of meat, as crops cannot be grown.  Their freezers are becoming less cold and dripping melting ice onto the meat, causing it to spoil.  Earlier snowmelts and later freezes are vastly altering surrounding wildlife and ecology.  Permafrost, which is centuries old, is starting to melt.  Increased erosions and storm intensity has caused millions to lose homes, jobs, and lives, especially Hurricane Katrina; for every one inch of risen sea level, eight feet of beaches shrink due to erosion.  Many countries rely on the constant flow of glacier waters to power their electricity.  The abundance of water now is stopping the gradual process.  In a few decades these countries will have no steady source of electricity.  As if the statistics never end, if the West Arctic ice sheets continue to break, the sea level in the vicinity will raise over twenty feet.  Last, perhaps the most horrifying of all, by the conclusion of the century, scientists predict the global ocean level will elevate from four inches to almost three feet (Glick, 2008).

I took this from a paper I am in the process of writting on the effects of melting ice glaciers.  also, here is a picture, for visual affect.

if that isn't proof enough to convince you we are in danger, I'll be happy to tell you more

  2. Global warming usually takes off during the weekend.  By Monday...you should start see the affects.  But by Friday...things should start to cool off again.  Kinda like a Monday-Friday job.  Unless there is overtime..then you will see global warming kicking it up on Saturday.

  3. The five year average temperature has INCREASED substantially in the last ten years.

Just one below average winter, which doesn't mean a thing.  It happened in 1982, 1991-1992, 1999-2000.  EVERY TIME global warming came back stronger than ever.  Proof.

As long as we keep making greenhouse gases in enormous amounts, global warming will dominate in the long run.  It's simple physics.

These guys are really surprised to find they have a "communist agenda":

"Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

"National Review (the most prestigious conservative magazine) published a cover story calling on conservatives to shake off denial and get into the climate policy debate"

"Pat Robertson (very conservative Christian leader) 'It is getting hotter and the ice caps are melting and there is a build up of carbon dioxide in the air.  We really need to do something on fossil fuels.”

"I believe there is now more than enough evidence of climate change to warrant an immediate and comprehensive - but considered - response. Anyone who disagrees is, in my view, still in denial."

Ford Motor Company CEO William Clay Ford, Jr.

"The science of global warming is clear. We know enough to act now. We must act now."

James Rogers, CEO of Charlotte-based Duke Energy.

We're headed to a mini-ice age they predict by 2020.

Australia had its coldest summer ever, China its coldest winter.

  5. Yes that's true.  Temps are stable (or cooling) if you look at only the last ten years.  The scope of planetary science is somewhat larger than that.  If you look at the last century or two, it's getting hotter.

  6. As predicted warming is first being noticed in the Arctic and the Antarctic.

This year, because of el nina we are experiencing a colder than normal year.  Not unusual.

Global Warming could lead to a mini ice age in northern Europe if the melted fresh water from the Arctic interferes with the norther end of the Gulf Stream   The Gulf Stream brings lots of warmth to northern Europe.  If it is stopped Europe will freeze.

But the warming of the planet will continue.  The displaced heat of the Gulf Stream will be somewhere else.  If it stays and the waters of the gulf really heat up watch out.

  7. Global warming is worldwide.

  8. Global warming is but a component, in a group of destructive forces at work such as ;deforestation,desertification,Subsequen... wind and Water erosion, soil and water contamination ,irresponsible or wasteful utilization of bio resources and air pollution.

    WHICH WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR.

A while ago one of NASA's top scientists concluded that the Arctic Ocean could be nearly ice-free within five years, much faster than all previous predictions.

Polar bears ARE dying, they are  great swimmers but they have their limits

the distances are very great ,between the floating bits of ice ,and are getting more all the time and the ice islands are getting less.

many get trapped by the spaces of water so to speak ,

Also wading through slush is very exhausting ,And ice does not support them any more so they are crawling half swimming ,very sad to see

they cannot walk and pounce as they did to hunt seal before .

the time span between meals is to great to keep cubs alive or maintain energy for long distance swimming

Watch a BBC documentary by David Attenborough

he did about 15 movies called Planet earth

the ones called Future ,the ice worlds ,from Pole to Pole ,

covers the poles and shows footage of polar bears swimming

And they can drown eventually from exhaustion

you have to see the film to realize the distances involved.

Also some very impressive stuff with polar bears attacking Walruses in desperation ,because their normal game and normal way of hunting ,of seals on ice is gone.

So Hunger is also doing the bears in.

this goes with the changes in Habitat

If the bears are near land they may adjust and start hunting people, the next game on their list

But this may cause someone to be upset and they will get shot instead. One wonders why Humans are the least in danger of extinction.on the contrary

    NOTE

All 15 movies are great these people have been making nature movies for many years and they show and talk about the differences of what they see today ,

    compared with before

They say whole migrations of millions of animals in the tundras have disappeared in just 5 years.

And everywhere they go people talk about certain species not being there any more..

thousands of species of frogs have gone ,world wide.

this is very significant because they are indicators of pollution because their skin is very absorbent, and they are sensitive to environmental changes.

the increase in water temperature will get faster all the time as well as the melting, when the ice is all gone the deeper cold Ocean currents will be drastically affected, which in turn will affect the warm currents, since all moving bodies of water are connected in series.

This will affect coastal climates ,world wide ,almost instantly. All aquatic flora and fauna will be affected, many dying off and others becoming invasive,

And recently In Chiapas ,and Tabasco in Mexico .more then a million people became homeless overnight with water coming up to their roofs ,because of rains from super evaporation from the forests, this had never happened before. Millions of animals died.

In India 3000 people died because of super storms .

.A few years ago in Europe 3500 people, died during a heat wave ,many of them in France .

Right now the average death toll annually is 150.000 due to Global warming

. these figures are already out of date and are expected to double soon.

In Northern China millions of people are running for their lives because regular dust storms so far have buried 900 villages under the sand and the whole of northern China is turning into a dessert.

The Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year all around the edges ,like a slow burning fire shriveling up their neighbors In the Kalahari huge rivers have dried up and thousand of species are gone due to their habitats disappearing .

The biggest changes are invisible at micro biotic levels species are becoming extinct ,others are multiplying ,

This affects the insect populations that follow ,and changes in that ,affect all that follows in the food chains ,

in the last 300 years half of the planets forests have gone

and in the last 50 years

half of our wet lands ,rain forests and ice fields .and 3000 species of animals .

We are now witnessing a mass Extinction of animals and plants of Biblical proportions, equal since the disappearance of the dinosaurs

    .

Whole migrations of animals involving millions have disappeared in only 20 years,

in one place in the tundras ,in just 5 years

If we want to save ourselves as a specie ,we have to address

    the problems

We can correct most of the destructive factors

with disciplines ,changes of attitude and habits, alternative energies ,sustainable design etc.

All species are in Danger eventually, and each is important because all of Life on this planet is interrelated even if it is not obvious

Imagine that the Eco system is a wall and each specie is represented by a brick

Every brick taken out weakens the wall ,and eventually it will collapse ,which brick is the most important ???

they are all important and we are one of the bricks

  9. in Antartica they found a palm tree under the ice because its melting

  10. If you look at an aerial view of alaska and the ice pack, you can see big changes, the ice pack is getting smaller. A piece of it (the size of ireland) just fell off.
