Question:

Where Are All The BEES Going?

Again, I saw this story on 60 minutes tonight. Bee keepers who use semis to transport millions of them to and from farms are saying the bees aren't returning to the hives and farmers are worried too.

They believe the colonies are in poor health, new pesticides, etc. At first they thought it was waves in the air, cell phone etc. but some who work in this field say the bee is a mirror of us and the bees are stressed and sick.

A few months back I read that if all the bees disappeared from the earth humans would all die in about 6 years. That statement shocked and scared me.

It's scary when you really start thinking about it. If you are interested, start Googling and get educated now. This is something that could really affect our future on earth and our country isn't the only one with this problem.

I think the government better start funding this and find the answers soon.

What's your thought? Thanks for your interest

  1. There are so many other bugs that pollinate fruits and vegetables.  And It was to my understanding that most of the things we grow are hybridized, and usually dont need help getting pollinated.

I heard they were dying from some type of myte or something.  Im not sure.

  2. The oppressed bee class has risen up against the running dog bee keepers and have abandoned their servitude to gather in the woods and plan their revolt against the oppressors.

    UP THE HIVE!!!!!!!!

  3. Honey bees are incredible! They can visit up to 45 - 100 flowers in one trip! Then come back to the hive and by dancing/waggling "tell" their sisters exactly where to go. They are very clean as well.

I think they are fragile and affected faster and easier than other insects or animals because they depend on each other as a society for survival. If the foragers get sick from pesticides or anything else and die then the hive can starve in the winter or be weakened enough to be robbed or affected by sickness/ low moral, etc..

I remember watching a program that showed an area where bees had left and wouldn't go back to and people had to pollinate every flower on the fruit trees themselves BY HAND!

I missed tonight's show, if you know when it might be replaying could you let me know? My daughter and I are going to BeeSchool through a Beekeepers Assc, and our hives and bees will be in soon! Wish us luck!

  4. My Grandpa was a bee keeper and I learned to love the science and the ways of bees. They keep us alive. In 1993 had a hive of wild bees. they just took off one day and left few behind, but the hive recovered. If they find a better way of life they will move on-Free Willie. With few dead bees I must assume this is what has happened. Remember the bees in the USA were going to be overrun by killer bees. If the free market works-here is their opportunity to save lives-fast.

  5. DON"T WORRY! BEES ONLY LIVE FOR UP TO 18 MONTHS ANYWAY...

  6. I think the "bees disappearing, we'll follow" was supposedly Einstein, but actually made-up.

The loss of pollination among flowers and the increased price of honey might be inconvenient, but I can't really see how the extinction of bees will doom us.

    Besides, I hate them.

  7. i don't know but i hope they come back even doe i always get bitten i live in Florida and i don't see many have not seen any this year .only wasts but not many either. sad
