Where Can I Buy An Infrared Converter?

Question

I need a small Infrared Converter that can convert audio to an Infrared Format and back. I prefer a place like Radio Shack or Circuit City, but any other place is fine.

You may need to describe in further detail what you are trying to do ie: hook up what device to this and send it over what kind of distance.

I have seen this type of setup used in some wireless headphones; a "transmitter" is connected to the TV or audio source and placed on top or in the open. The headphones have a set of "Receiving" sensors on top and convert the infrared back to audio for you to hear. Seeing as there are problems to this kind of setup the other wireless types involving radio waves seem to be more favorable.

Other than that I can't think of any consumer products available. In basic terms it wouldn't be hard to design something that does what you are after.
