Question:

Where Can I Convert My mpeg2 Videos to mpeg1?

I am making a film with my friends and am using a digital camera. When I put them on my computer, they come out as mpeg2 files. I want to put them on Windows Movie Maker so I can edit them and add music - simple stuff. The problem is that Windows Movie Maker doesn't take mpeg2 which means I need to convert them somehow. I have tried many different free programs that say they will do the trick but ultimately don't.

Can someone suggest a program that can convert mpeg2 files to mpeg1 and is preferably free?

If there are no good free ones, then can you tell me the best one that you do have to pay for that just does what I need, so that I don't waste my money on a program, only to find out it doesn't do what I need.

Thanks.

  1. A free application called MPEG Streamclip will do this for you. It can be used on Windows and Mac computers.

  2. This Video Converter is a powerful one that can convert videos to any format and put video on any players.

Also it support various video formats. You can convert video between all popular video formats.

There is an Unbiased reviews and side-by-side comparisons of video Converters and gives you enough information to research the ins and outs of a particular product:

Also, you can google some other software:

  3. You could try Super, but MPEG-1 is a terrible format for editing.  By the time you've re-encoded it with WMM it'll be even worse.  Convert it to WMV instead.  If the quality's too bad try an editor that can handle MPEG-2, such as AVS Video Editor.
