I sold my old camera (Panasonic AG-DVX1200) and managed to raise $2,000. Now I want to buy a Panasonic AG-HVX200 HD camera. I don't care if it's used or not. Where @ online can I find one?

  1. If you find that, tell me where you can find it as well, because I'm finding it impossible.

It's been out for a couple of years now, but it's still retailing for about $5,000.  Used ones aren't going for much less, because the use of P2 cards doesn't lead to any "wear and tear."

I was able to find a "demo" unit, which had been used in trade shows, for about $4,000 about a year ago.  It was as good as new, and had the same warranty.  Think about it; if it's being used in trade shows, they're not showcasing its MiniDV capabilities and wearing the heads - they want to show off the P2 HD stuff!  So, a demo unit is as good as a new one.

Still, you're not getting one, new or used, for $2,000.  I really hate to come to that conclusion, because I want one too, but that's the unfortunate reality.

In your price range, you can settle for some very nice HDV machines.  They're not quite the HVX200, but it's high-definition (albeit MPEG-2 compressed), and might still serve your purposes.  I'm exploring that option right now.  Literally.

  2. It will be difficult to find a Panasonic AG-HVX200 for $2,000 even if it is used.

They have only been out a couple of months.  They are currently sold new at around $5,000 online.  You can try searching Craigslist, the used section of Amazon, eBay, and your local videographers to find a used one at your price range; however, I would be very careful of someone offering that camera to me for $2,000 or less since it is probably damaged (but it's probably within warranty if you try calling Panasonic for a repair).

You can get other new professional Panasonic HD cameras for that price.  Sony also has professional HD models similar to the HVX200 in your price range.
