  1. They tend to sleep on the ground or on sommething dead.

  2. Yours is actually a great question. Paul gives the most accurate information. Flies are part of the family Diptera, as are Mosquitoes. Flies are essential in the web of life. Boys drink nectar and girls bite. Flies are responsible for pollinating some plants, breaking down decomposing materials and many insects and animals eat them. Some of them resemble bees. You can identify a fly from a bee, usually, by the shape of eye. Flies have round eyes and Hymenoptera-Bees and kin have oval eyes.

Since your question is so interesting: Look up the Robber Fly.

Forensic Pathologists use fly types and their larva to get a determination of time of death in homicides.

  3. They shelter under the eaves of houses and protected places like that, seen 'em.

  4. I think they live for like 11 days or somethin. anyway its not that they sleep more that they stay in one place and rest.

  5. Sleep?  I don't know if they have a sleep pattern such as humans and other mammals.  But if there are flies in your house and the lights are all off, the flies land and stay motionless until lights are turned on again!

    Sleep?  or Just resting?

  6. well, flies only live for 1 day, so if they sleep, i don't think they wake up! happy 2 help!

  7. Inside the house they are usually found high on the walls or on the ceiling after dark.  I can only assume they do the same outdoors and can be found high in trees.  But I have never observed them in the wild after dark.  I suspect some may stay on food sources after dark.  Dead meat, flowers or whatever.  I might have to try that at home to see what they do.
