Where does pasta belong in the five food groups

  1. Regular white pasta is not that healthy of a food... consider going whole grain. There are several good brands that taste almost exactly the same, especially the ones with the lentil and chickpea flours rather than the plain "whole wheat" ones.

    But yes, pasta fits under the grains category.


  2. Pasta is made from grains (rice, wheat, corn etc) so it goes in the same food group as breads, cereals etc.

  3. Pasta is usually made from semolina so it considered a grain.

    It would be considered part of the base of the current USDA food pyramid although there are other eating systems and nutritional structures that do not place a very high emphasis on pasta as a source of nutrition.
